Welcome to the Voices for School Libraries Network

The Voices for School Libraries Network was launched so that teacher librarians and school library staff across Canada can meet, discuss issues, ask questions, form like minded groups, (either by province or territory or by themes like Advocacy or Literacy Skills), post pictures and videos. Anyone working in or for school libraries in Canada is invited to join.
------------------------------

LEARNING FOR THE FUTURE

Working Toward National Standards for School Libraries in Canada
The first Treasure Mountain Canada Research Symposium was held in Edmonton in  2010. It attracted over 60 practitioners and researchers and focused on “Transforming Canadian School Libraries to Meet the Needs of 21st Century Learners.” Building upon the ideas and concepts emanating from that event, Treasure Mountain Canada 2 will be held in Ottawa on June 2nd and 3rd. The focus of this retreat will be on beginning the redevelopment of National Standards to support the achievement of 21st Century Learners.

David Loertscher and Carol Koechlin will moderate the event. Research and scholarly articles have been promised from over 20 leading thinkers and many of them will attend to present their material and provoke our thinking. Dr. Valerie Steeves, author of the Media Awareness Network 2012 research report, Young Canadians in a Wired Worldwill be our the keynote speaker to initiate deep and broad thinking. Dr Ray Doiron, Faculty of Education, PEI, will present his paper written with Dr. Marlene Asselin from UBC titled Confronting the ‘Crisis of  Significance’ in 21st Century School Libraries, and many more contributions will inform our work.
